Orchestra

Dear All-State students and families,

First, we wanted to express our deepest sympathies that you were unable to play your final performance for MMEA All-State at Orchestra Hall. MMEA All-State leaders understand how hard students work to get into All-State, from the time of their audition the prior March through the performance in February. Each of the leaders has worked with their own students through the process, and some were also members of All-State in their high school years.

We have looked for possible dates to bring all of you together again to make up for the cancellation of the Orchestra Hall performance. Unfortunately, due to the schedules of participating high schools, Minnesota Orchestra Hall, and this year’s All-State conductors, we are unable to reschedule this event and also ensure you will gain the same quality experience as previously planned.

MMEA leadership did not make this decision lightly. The cancellation was due to a Winter Storm Warning which increases the likelihood of hazardous travel with everyone leaving downtown Minneapolis around 5PM. Other scheduled activities continued or were cancelled. We can't speak to their decision making process, only our own. Please understand that this was a decision made in favor of the ensuring the safety of all involved in our event.

While the experience of playing on the Orchestra Hall stage with your fellow All-State students cannot be replaced, we are glad you had a final run-through with each other at the Hilton. MMEA will mail All-State programs to your sponsoring teacher this spring. Please contact your director or info@mmea.org if you are interested in being mailed a copy.

On behalf of MMEA, we want to thank you for your dedication to being a musician and the fact that you brought that dedication to the All-State experience, including the summer camp, Summer performance, and the February rehearsals. We hope that your experience with section coaches, other All-State students, and conductors have provided fuel for your musical learning now and going forward.

Sincerely,

MMEA Leadership
