Programs
Overview
All-State is MMEA's largest program,
involving over 2300 students each year in live auditions, seven performing
groups, three summer camps, and a performance at the Midwinter Clinic.
The Composition Contest has categories for elementary through college students. You can get details about elementary and middle School competitions here, and high school and collegiate competitions here.
First place winners in each division will receive an invitation to
perform the work at the following Midwinter Clinic, and overall winners
at each level will receive a one-year membership to the American
Composers Forum and composition software in addition to the performance
opportunity.
The MMEA Awards recognize models of excellence
in music teaching and learning. Awards include Educator of the Year, Hall
of Fame, and Distinguished Service.
The Elementary Festivals are held in various
parts of the state and are intended as enrichment activities for our members'
students. These festivals are generally held on a Saturday in the month
of March (in conjunction with Music in Our Schools Month) and feature
guest clinicians from around the region and a culminating public performance.
Last year, over 600 students participated in the elementary festivals.
The Middle Level Festivals are held for both
bands and choirs at several sites around the state. Up to eight schools
gather at each festival site for a non-competitive festival experience.
Attendees will appreciate this rare opportunity for middle-level students
to perform for and listen to their peers in a comfortable, supportive
environment. |
