Minnesota State High School League

The Minnesota State High School League is a voluntary nonprofit association of public and private schools with a history of service to Minnesota youth since 1916. Its mission is to provide educational opportunities through interscholastic athletic and fine arts programs for students and leadership and support for member schools. To achieve this mission, the league adheres to these governing values:
• equity, fairness and justice
• activities that support the academic mission of schools
• fair play and honorable competition
• activities that support healthy lifestyles
• treating people with dignity and respect

The Minnesota State High School League is involved with the administration and operational aspects of all High School Music Contests. Areas covered by the League include:

• setting the calendar for state solo/ensemble contest
• ethics statements
• eligibility of student participants
• contests and festival administration
• judges and contest lists
• awards
• registered and certified adjudicator lists
• contest events
• approved contest and festival music
• music registrations/section assignments

Music Advisory Committee
If you have a question or concern regarding a High School League-sponsored event, or would like to see a change in judging forms, rules for contest, or other League-sponsored activities, contact the music advisory committee. The Music Advisory Committee is appointed by the President of MMEA and meets in the fall of each odd year to discuss issues brought forth by MMEA members. It is the responsibility of this committee to poll our membership and find out if other music teachers feel and have the same concerns. If state membership is in favor of change then the music advisory committee brings the proposal for change to the High School League Board of Directors for action.
Send your ideas, concerns and comments by email to mail to:
