Equal Access ~ Changing Classrooms
Residency Mini-Grant Program
2008 - 2009 School Year

Minnesota's students and schools are changing rapidly. To provide music educators the tools and skills to serve these changing populations, MMEA has created a mini-grant program. The mini-grant program provides funds to engage teaching artists who reflect the changing population in your school.

The goals of the Equal Access-Changing Classrooms Mini-Grant program are:

•  To build the skills, tools, and knowledge of the educator to meet the needs of students in the culturally diverse classrooms.
•  To provide access to culturally relevant music education in Minnesota's classrooms.
•  To create change in the classroom.

Eligibility and Requirements

•  The participating school must be a public or private school serving students between grades K-12.
•  The project coordinator must be a licensed music educator, although we welcome projects that integrate other educators.
•  The project coordinator must be a member of MENC/MMEA.
•  The project coordinator must identify the teaching artist that will be involved in the project.
•  The project coordinator must identify three outcomes that are expected to be met with the residency.
•  The school must match the grant funds through their budget, the PTO/PTA, community organizations, or other granting sources.

If grant money is awarded,

•  The project coordinator must provide a written summary of the project, including the extent to which the three outcomes were met.
•  The project coordinator will be required to provide an article about the experience.
